Another successful concert for the Navels!!!
We had 166 people paying to hear our music. Okay, so some failed to notice the A3 poster at the door, and thought they were going to a disco!!! But 166 is 166! Last time we reached around 110, so we're making progress here. The money earned from this gig will be spent on equipment.
And for the first time since we started performing, we've heard *negative* criticism about our music! It's a bit of a relief, really. I think it was John who appeared backstage and told us that some girl said that we were "boring". The number of positive comments outnumbered her by a very large margin, though. :)
And I had my debut as a lead singer with Navel Flush. Never A Child went *fairly* okay, but I forgot some of the lines in the chorus, and it's difficult to play drums and sing the chorus at the same time. Mats said I was a bit out of tune on that one. I'll get it right one of these days! I also sang lead on Innocence, and that went over *really* well. In fact, I'd say it was the best audience response we've ever had for a ballad! The performance from all of us was wonderful, and people got into the power of the Beautiful Ballad. :) The others in the band said the vocals worked great, me on lead and John harmonizing here and there.
We had some wonderful help this time: Frode and Frank were on hand during rigging and throughout the concert, and were also present for that dreaded after-gig anti-climax: tearing down the equipment and getting it back to the rehearsal room. Frode was also very helpful with adjusting the sound and getting water to tired musicians. We were so impressed with Frode, that we have named him the first official member of the Navel Crew! :) If John is up for the job, we might have a section of Navel Net dedicated to Frode soon.
Our gratitude goes out to Frode and Frank, and also Ingrid, Kristian and Little-Ingrid, who also helped us. Tom Roger and Thomas were on hand to help with the PA - which was misbehaving somewhat. Also thanks to Helge Stiauren, the ower of the venue, and his son Jøran, who opened doors for us. :) Last, but not least: Thank you very much to the 166 people who payed to see and hear us!!! Especially the ones who got up and danced!:)
My best memory of the gig? Hmmm... I think that would have to be that drunk guy in his forties, begging us to play "Sweet Home Alabama." Then as we were about to leave the stage he grabbed my hand and asked if he could go behind the drums and play a little, saying something about him being better than Billy Cobham! I politely told him that we were finished for the evening. :)
