A tribute to our former bandmates
Of the original lineup of Navel Flush, only Ken and Morten remain. On this page we pay tribute to our former bandmembers, who all contributed to the early Navel-Sound. Our gratitude goes out to these fine young men:

One of the original members of the band, Kent-Remo co-wrote a couple of our early songs, and played his jangly acoustic guitar and sang as well. He provided a nice supplement to Morten's electric guitar, and his singing voice was rather good as well. With both Kent-Remo and Ken being avid Science Fiction enthusiasts, the topic of any conversation was pretty much set when both were together in the same room. Kent-Remo only stayed for a few months, though. When January 1998 arrived, he started his one-year service in the army. He'd come home every now and then and visit us at rehearsals. Being a former bandmember, he was the final authority on how we were progressing, providing valuable input. |

We started out without a bass player, but Mats Haukland, being friends with the band, kindly provided us with the low end on some rehearsals. After a while we convinced him to join full-time. His subtle jazz-like approach to bass playing had us listening intensely for the bass lines, and many times we had to force Mats to turn up the volume properly. When we could hear him, we heard great, melodic bass lines that became essential parts of songs like "Alone" and "Reflection". After only two gigs with Navel Flush, Mats quit - he was moving to Trondheim to study at the university there. Mats has later had a guest appearance with the band, playing bass with them on "Cardboard Box" at the Christmas '98 gig at Loftet. He was also Master of Ceremonies that night, providing a dynamic introduction of the Band. The band has declared him leader of the fanclub, "Stormtroopers of Flush". |
(We have no photos of Jarle, so to honour his love for Fantasy, we'll make him look like a Thrall.) |
Jarle was a strange guy who would hang out and read fantasy books. Morten got him to join us just as we were starting out. His voice was good, and he could sing in tune, and we didn't demand anything more. At times Jarle sounded a bit like that guy in Blur, which was kind of cool, especially on our song "Thoughts": "I wonn-dah!" Eventually, Jarle became sort of distant for some reason. He was missing in action on many of our rehearsals, and one day he just quit. He said that he felt that we were "too good", and that he was slowing us down. We were saddened by his departure, because he gave us the luxury of having a bandmember dedicated only to singing while the rest of us played our instruments. Since then we've lost contact with Jarle, and the rumour is that he has moved back to his hometown of Bodø. We'll always remember Jarle Pedersen as a vital part of the early Navel Flush sound, and the man who had the best of the early bandname suggestions: Men in Pink. |
