Okay, how the hell can there be frequently asked questions about a completely unknown band? Have these questions even been asked before? Well...uhm...no! But FAQ-meister Kentil'Zha, being the Sci-Fi nut that he is, have travelled in his time-machine to check out what questions people will ask the band in the near future. So we're really just answering the questions that you, our fans-to-be, will eventually ask! :)

Part 1: About the band

 

1. What is a navel flush anyway?

-A navel flush is just that: A flushing of the navel. A lot of people have experienced the gathering of lint in the navel. The best way to deal with it is to flush it out!

 

2. Yeah, but why would you want to name a band after something so silly?

-We couldn't think of anything else.

 

3. So your imagination leaves something to be desired?

-When it comes to bandnames, yes. When it comes to music, now that's something else!

Part 2: About the bandmembers

 

1. Who are the members of Navel Flush?

-We are: John Erik Andersen, bass; Ken Høili, drums and percussion; Mats Jøran Jamtli, saxophone, various flutes, acoustic guitar; Morten Røberg, electric guitar.

 

2. What, no vocals?

-Oh! Sorry, I forgot: Vocal duties are shared between the four of us. Kind of like the Beatles, only that our drummer can sing! :)

 

3. What other bands have they played in?

-John and Morten played together in Dreamslave, a heavy metal band. Then the two of them plus Mats were in the punk band Unge Sinte Late (Young Angry Lazy). Ken has played in several different bands, most notably with the punk-blues outfit Simulerte Orgasmer (Simulated Orgasms) and the hardcore band Rechtum Immortalis. Ken and Mats also collaborated with former Navel Flush bass player Mats Haukland in the jazz trio What Did You Do With My Wife?

 

4. What do they do when they're not playing?

-John and Mats are in school, John studying theatre and Mats arts. Morten is a trainee at the local steel mill, while Ken restores old films at the National Library.

 

5. Who else has been in Navel Flush?

-Jarle Pedersen was our singer in the beginning, but he quit because he thought we were too good. Kent-Remo Bratland played guitar and sang with us until he joined the army. Mats Haukland was our bass player, but moved to Trondheim to study at the University.

 

6. Cool! Anything else, then?

Part 3: The music

 

1. So what's the music like, then?

-Ah, we're glad you asked! Navel Flush sounds like...hmmm, that's a tough question! We've heard many different descriptions of our music, all of them quite good. Some examples are "It's like a mix of Nirvana and REM!" "Alternative acid flush-metal" and "It's progressive, without being pompous and stupid."

 

2. Could you be a little more specific, please?

-Sigh! You're so demanding today, aren't you?'

 

3. Oh please!!!

-Okay, sorry! The thing is, between the four of us, influences are very widespread. I mean very! Morten is the Pink Floyd-oholic, Mats is a jazz-man, Ken likes progressive rock, and John likes his black metal 24 hours a day. Since we're all very nice chaps we tend to incorporate a little bit of everything, the result being that everyone in the band are happy with the music.
